Hot Air Balloons Festival, Taunggyi

Taunggyi is the capital city of the Shan State, Myanmar. Totally in Shan State, tourists are come to visit Inle Lake for the famous one leg rowers and the important religious site Phaung Daw Oo pagoda, silk weaving factory, Nga Phe Chaung (jumping cat) monastery as well. In this time, most of the tourists are known about Taunggyi Hot Air balloons festival is one of the factor to visit Taunggyi. 


Hot Air Balloons Festival of Taunggyi is held every year in the end of the Buddhist Lent. Sending up balloons with different designs and decorated different colors cellophane lantern on the outside. Usually balloons are 15 to 12 feet high. The flame heats air in the balloons support to quick balloon ascending. Balloon can carry about 10 to 15 foot tail which is filled with various types firecracker to continuously light for the balloon ascend. Competition of Hot Air Balloons Festival in Taunggyi is held and chooses the best decoration and high flying balloons among the villages. The meaning of Festival is to pay homage to the Sulamani Pagoda in heaven by sending up many decorated balloons.


Normally, most of the hotel rooms in Taunggyi are fully booked according to the high occupancy during festival time. Local tour and hotel room reservation are available to check by phone (or) by email.
